Veteran DP members can get away with scamming people (GeorgeB)…
Yep, a veteran DP member, GeorgeB, sold me a site with install and what I got was a domain, a pirated version of vbulletin installed on my server and a bunch of ignored pms since (of course after having to also wait for a good month for even that “service”). Sales thread here
Seems if you have been around for a while and are in the mood, you can get away with scamming people and pretty much no one will give a damn one way or another. Or if there is a spectacle made, in many cases all the long time friends of the popular scammer will jump in and defend that person to the end. No wonder people are using all the other sites marketplaces instead these days. DP is filling up with scammers and frauds all because they don’t do crap about it.
What sucks is there is very little recourse available with something like that. You can of course leave negative iTrader but can surely expect it in return even if you followed through with your part of the deal. So, what does that do to a public rating system setup to help people watch out for scamming behavior? It pretty much defeats the purpose and those who already have higher iTrader and rep have little to fear from a few measly complaints. IF those complaints are even ever heard. Who knows what percentage of non reported negative iTraders goes on just because of fear of retaliation negs. So over time, those that probably should have the most negatives added, end up getting away with whatever they want because they have already proven themselves. Kind of like the guy that gets all the way to congress and then just robs everyone blind.
DP’s system is broken and it seems the scammers and frauders know that and they are coming in like flies on dirty donkey doo. I’ve either been screwed or flat out scammed 4 out of the last 5 deals I made, a few from other long term members! Maybe I am just losing my edge and have become too trusting. Or maybe I have been painted as an easy target. Hell, for all I know, all these bastards may have some “scammers lair” somewhere and I was added as an easy mark on their list.
All I know is I will be doing less and less business on DP because of the scams, BS infractions, and what seems like a lack of concern by the staff. All the more room for George and his secret society of scammers lol.
At the very least I have had many great transactions and made some good friends because of it. Good thing is I can continue to be friends with those people on other sites that actually do something about obvious scammers regardless how long they have been kissing ass.
Does my silly little rant get me anywhere or make the scammers empathetic and see the wrong in their ways? Hell no. It just reinforces what they already know…they can get away with it and all they have to worry about is some random blog talking shit about them. Hell, now that I think about it, I actually have a pretty decent iTrader now myself and a years worth of post. Maybe I have it all wrong and I just missed my invitation to the asshole club where I learn about screwing people now that I have a decent iTrader. George, you know my paypal email address from back when I sent you all that money…can you send my invitation there please?
* Update: More than two months after the sale, and after some other members stepping up and calling out the actions, George has come around and offered a partial refund to be used to hire someone to fix the mess he left. There were already a couple awesome people (Martyn and Mcfox) that had already offered to try to help for free but it was nice to have something back that I could share for the time. Thanks to those two guys as well as the others that offered as well as all those that took a second to post about the issue. Although the management on DP doesn’t seem to want to protect the legit users, as long as the good members stick together and help each other it will be a good place to do business.

I’m sick of scammers, the cheap rules DP has and 1-2 lame mods, who leave rude remarks when threads have been closed by another moderator already. I don’t expect YourAdHost to become large as DP, which would be a good thing. It means less scammers and fraud members. I created YAH, to fix DP’s system.. the lame rules that NEVER seem to fix anything. I was even banned for 1 week, because I reported a member, who sent me racisit comments via PM.
What’s even worse is the admin, Shawn is never around. Why create a forum for just the money? He’s too busy with things and that’s the downfall of DP. When shawn was aroung, things were better off. These days DP is a junk yard.. a flea market.. and no one cares for anything.
